A brief history of the different LGBT flags:
Gilbert Baker designed the Rainbow Pride Flag in 1978 for San Francisco’s Gay Freedom Day celebrations. The flag does not realistically depict the rainbow. Instead, the colors of the rainbow are represented by horizontal bands, with red at the top and purple at the bottom. The rainbow flag represents the diversity of gays and lesbians around the world. In the original eight-color version, pink represented sexuality, red for life, orange for healing, yellow for the sun, green for nature, turquoise for art, blue for love. harmony and purple for the soul. A copy of the original eight-color 20 by 9 meter flag was remade by Baker in 2000 and in the Castro District installed in San Francisco.
There are many variations of the rainbow flag, some incorporating other LGBT symbols as well.
Since 2018, the Progress Pride flag includes as an extension the triangle on the left side of the rainbow flag to include trans people: white for non-binary people, pink and light blue for binary trans people, brown for trans people colored and black for AIDS victims.
Valentino Vecchietti designed an addition to the Progress Pride flag for Intersex Equality Rights UK in 2021, highlighted with a yellow triangle with a purple circle representing intersex.
