Thousands of Pages Deleted Over “Problematic” Terms
Under Donald Trump’s administration, terms such as “LGBT,” “transgender,” “climate change,” and “pregnant person” have been removed from American government and scientific websites. According to The Washington Post, this sweeping action has led to the deletion of nearly 8,000 web pages.
A Government Directive to Purge Federal Websites
This mass removal follows a Trump administration directive requiring official websites to eliminate any content containing words considered “sensitive.” Among the targeted terms are “woman,” “disability,” “indigenous community,” and “climate change.” The New York Times reports that over a dozen government sites have been affected, with more than 8,000 pages removed since January 31. The deletions include articles on “chronic disease prevention,” Alzheimer’s disease, and vaccines for pregnant women.
A Clear Agenda Against Diversity and Climate Science
This move aligns with Trump’s agenda to curb diversity programs and challenge what he calls “transgender ideology.” Following his campaign promises, the president is swiftly implementing policies on these issues. Environmental topics have also been targeted, with numerous pages related to ecology and climate change being erased from federal websites.

Researchers Pressured to Censor Their Work
The administration’s actions go beyond website deletions. An official email reportedly instructed researchers to halt ongoing work under review or even manuscripts already accepted for publication. The goal is to scrutinize these documents for “banned terms” before they are publicly released, according to The Huffington Post.
The scientific community has reacted strongly to these measures. On the social network Bluesky, many experts voiced their concerns. In a joint statement, the Infectious Diseases Society of America and the HIV Medicine Association warned that this policy “creates a dangerous gap in scientific information and data needed to monitor and respond to epidemics.”
Ultimately, this censorship initiative has sparked widespread criticism, particularly over threats to information transparency and academic freedom, which are crucial in a democratic society.
