As indicated by the United States government, the X gender marker has been available on American passports since April 11.

The Department of State has taken another step in its work to better serve all American citizens, regardless of gender identity. In June, I announced that US passport applicants could self-select their gender and were no longer required to submit medical documents, even if their selected gender differed from their other citizenship or identity documents. Starting April 11, US citizens will be able to select an X as a gender marker on their US passport application, and the option will be available for other forms of documentation next year.

The Department is setting a precedent by becoming the first federal government agency to introduce the X gender marker on an ID. When we announced in June that we had started this work, we referenced the addition of a third gender marker for non-binary, intersex, and gender non-conforming people. Since then, we have sought public input through the notice and comment process we undertook to update our passport application forms. We also continued to consult with partner countries that have already taken this important step to recognize gender diversity in their passports. Finally,
