At 20 years old, Vivian Jenna Wilson leads what seems like a normal life. Originally from Los Angeles, she now studies foreign languages in Tokyo, Japan. But there’s one thing that sets her apart: Vivian is the daughter of Elon Musk—one of the world’s richest and most controversial figures. Cutting Ties with Elon Musk
Vivian has publicly distanced herself from her father, criticizing both his views and behavior. This in-depth Teen Vogue interview is only her second with the media, following one with CBN News in July 2024. Speaking candidly, she explains the complete break in their relationship. From her dorm room, she makes it clear she has no interest in her father, responding fiercely to his latest controversies: “That Nazi salute? That was completely insane. Let’s be real—it was a Nazi salute. Besides that, I don’t give a damn about him.”
A Name Change, A New Identity
Vivian’s estrangement from Musk began years ago. Since coming out as transgender in 2020, she says she was rejected by her father. At the time, he stated, “My son is dead, killed by the woke mind virus.” In 2022, she legally changed her last name to Wilson, honoring her mother, Justine Wilson. She says she hasn’t spoken to Musk in nearly five years—“Thank God,” she adds. She also stresses her independence: “I’ve never made money from being famous. Not a single dollar.” Asked whether her father’s fortune intimidates her, she replies coldly: “He’s a pathetic man-child. Why would I be afraid of him?”
More Tension as Musk Sparks New Controversy
In an ironic twist, on the same day Vivian’s interview was released, Elon Musk reposted a message on X (formerly Twitter) accusing transgender and non-binary people of committing most acts of vandalism against Tesla vehicles. He added, “The probability of a trans person being violent seems much higher than that of a non-trans person”—a comment that instantly drew backlash.
A Family in Name Only
Vivian says her connection to the Musk family is virtually nonexistent. She barely knows her siblings—children from Musk’s three different relationships. “I don’t even know how many siblings I have,” she admits. She vaguely recalls seeing “X,” Musk’s child with Grimes, once at a public White House event. “I don’t stay in touch with that side of the family because… I just don’t. My mom doesn’t either. She’s divorced. So I don’t care what they do—it’s not my problem.”
Fear Under Trump’s America
Vivian doesn’t limit her criticism to her father. She’s deeply concerned about the political direction of the U.S. since Donald Trump returned to office. Anti-trans legislation has become a personal threat. “As a trans woman, I’m terrified of losing access to my healthcare,” she says. But her concerns go beyond the trans community: “What they’re doing is awful—not just to trans people, but to immigrants, people of color, and many other marginalized groups targeted by this administration.”
A Voice of Strength and Resilience
Throughout the interview, Vivian remains honest and emotional. She tears up when talking about the support she receives from her friends and chosen family. But she ends with a powerful message to those who feel isolated or judged: “Don’t let other people’s perceptions define who you are. Don’t be afraid to be yourself.”
