Creating a Safe and Inclusive Space for the Community
At the start of the school year, Rainbow’n’Caux proudly opened its first permanent space in Fécamp—a significant step for the organization. This welcoming and confidential environment is designed for anyone seeking a place to connect, share, or simply unwind. “This new space symbolizes recognition from the city and highlights the importance of our role within the local community,” the team shares.
Open Weekly Gatherings for All
Rainbow’n’Caux hosts weekly drop-in sessions that are open to LGBTQIA+ individuals and allies alike. These informal meetups foster open, respectful dialogue where participants can ask questions, tell their stories, or just listen. Discussion topics vary each week, driven by the interests of those attending. The events encourage intergenerational exchange and embrace the diversity of lived experiences. Friends and family members are also welcome, and individual support sessions can be arranged as needed.
Building Stronger Local Partnerships
Rainbow’n’Caux is actively developing collaborative relationships with local institutions and other nonprofit organizations to strengthen its local impact. While the group continues to work toward official accreditation to operate in schools, it has already taken part in DiffDay at Maupassant High School—an annual event dedicated to celebrating differences. A collaborative theater forum project addressing discrimination is also in the pipeline, scheduled for rollout in 2026 at a local middle school.
Raising Awareness While Facing Challenges
In just three years—two as an officially registered nonprofit—Rainbow’n’Caux has gained growing visibility and contributed to a better understanding of LGBTQIA+ issues in the region. While positive feedback is increasing, challenges persist. The group regularly faces hostility, particularly online. “Although awareness is growing, we frequently encounter hateful comments on local media’s Facebook pages due to a lack of proper moderation,” the team reports.
Fighting Stigma and Advocating for Inclusion
Members emphasize the ongoing need to combat misinformation, discrimination, and hate speech. They advocate for equal rights and societal inclusion. “We are not a subcategory of citizens,” they affirm. The association also encourages inward reflection within the LGBTQIA+ community to address internal biases such as racism, transphobia, and fatphobia. “If we expect tolerance from others, we must also uphold it among ourselves,” they stress.
Expanding Programs and Future Plans
Rainbow’n’Caux continues to grow its initiatives with local partnerships, including events at media libraries, interactive theater forums, educational workshops, rainbow cafés, and community conferences. Preparations are already underway for this year’s Pride March in June. Looking ahead, the association plans to launch an LGBTQIA+ film festival in Fécamp, acquire a vehicle to serve rural areas, and eventually operate full-time. Strengthening collaborations with public institutions and media outlets is also a goal, particularly to combat digital hate and ensure safer online spaces.
