Building an Inclusive Future for Queer Communities in Caen
A fresh and dynamic LGBTQIA+ group is reshaping the queer scene in Caen: meet Les Luron·ne·s LGBTQIA+. Born from a spirit of kindness and solidarity, this vibrant organization is dedicated to creating a welcoming, intergenerational, and inclusive space where everyone is free to embrace their identity and connect authentically with others.
In a landscape that blends activism with celebration, Les Luron·ne·s offer a safe and affirming environment where individuals can recharge, express themselves, and share meaningful experiences. Their mission centers on fostering community in its most genuine form.
Driven by Activism and Unity
From engaging queer meetups to joyful social events, Les Luron·ne·s honor powerful values: standing against all forms of discrimination, uplifting those most at risk, preserving the memory of those who’ve faced persecution, and taking strong political positions rooted in antifascism, feminism, and anti-racism. Their dedicated team is passionate about empowering Caen’s LGBTQIA+ community and creating lasting change.
Grassroots to Legal Association
What began as an informal collective in March 2025 quickly evolved. By September, the enthusiasm and growing community led to the official creation of a nonprofit. “The buzz around our gatherings made it clear—formalizing as an association was the next logical step,” say the group’s founders.
Bringing Shared Values to Life
Les Luron·ne·s thrive on a foundation of shared values such as kindness, inclusivity, respect, and solidarity. These principles grew out of lived experiences and conversations among members of a previous local organization. “Our identity took shape by listening deeply to one another,” explain co-founders Loïc, Neal, and Bri.
Fostering Safe and Welcoming Spaces
Safety is a top priority for Les Luron·ne·s, whether hosting events at bars or working alongside inclusive venues. “We reached out to a number of queer-friendly spaces, and the response was overwhelmingly positive,” the volunteer team shares. “This allows us to offer truly safe and affirming environments.”
One unforgettable event featured captivating performances by local drag artists, leaving attendees with lasting memories. “The atmosphere was joyful and supportive—it was one of those nights where community truly came alive.”
Expanding the Local Queer Ecosystem
While Caen already has an active queer network, Les Luron·ne·s bring something new to the table. “We’re not looking to replace what’s already here,” the team clarifies. “Our mission is to complement and enrich the community by offering something different. We approach our work with humility but also a bold sense of purpose.”
Connecting Generations Through Dialogue
Intergenerational exchange is a cornerstone of their approach. “Bridging generational gaps is vital. Younger members have so much to gain from the wisdom of their elders,” say the organizers.
The association even includes an intergenerational representative—Aline—on its board, ensuring that all voices are heard. Members range in age from 21 to 77, fostering open dialogue and a lively, supportive atmosphere. “Everyone brings their stories. It’s that shared narrative that makes our gatherings so powerful.”
Calling Out Discrimination in All Its Forms
Always vigilant, Les Luron·ne·s actively monitor the issues facing LGBTQIA+ individuals—be it related to gender, sexuality, disability, or mental and physical health. “Our community represents a broad spectrum—students, working professionals, retirees—which gives us unique insight into the many challenges people face right here in Caen,” say the volunteers.
They also maintain a strong political voice. Through a proactive social media presence, the group raises awareness and takes a stand on important societal issues, always reflecting their core principles with courage and clarity.
Celebrating Through Activism and Events
Staying connected with the community is a priority, and Les Luron·ne·s use Instagram, email, and phone to keep the conversation alive. One can’t-miss event is their year-end celebration on December 20, featuring special guest and Paris-based drag queen Lady Karamel, a longtime friend of the group. “All details are shared on our Instagram, so stay tuned,” say the organizers.
Plans for 2026 are already in the works, promising even more opportunities for connection, expression, and pride.
Stepping Into Pride With Confidence
Les Luron·ne·s embrace a clear message: “We are proud of who we are. Our differences are our strength.” The group will proudly march in the next Caen Pride in 2026, determined to represent the full richness and diversity of the LGBTQIA+ community with energy, joy, and unwavering pride.
