India : The situation of transgender Congress workers

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Pradesh Transgender Congress (KPTC), which acts as an affiliate organization of the state Congress, recently underwent a major overhaul. Despite the state’s pioneering efforts in 2015 to launch a policy to ensure justice and equal rights for the transgender community, they still feel a lack of acceptance from their party colleagues. The KPTC was launched with great fanfare in 2020 under the presidency of Mullapally Ramachandran, president of the state Congress. For the past three years, the affiliate has been led by Arunima M Kurup, a transgender woman, who is currently pursuing her second year LLB at CSI College for Legal Studies in Kanakkary, Kottayam.
