In Amiens, about 300 individuals gathered outside the Town Hall to protest the growing violence against the LGBTQIA+ community. “Anti-LGBTQIA+ violence has always been a reality,” stated Renaud Mignon-Stéphan, president of Somme Z’en Fièr.es.s, noting a sharp rise in these incidents recently. This sentiment, echoed by Drag Amiens, spurred the organization of the demonstration, where participants voiced their fears and anger over the wave of attacks.
Far-Right Supporters Implicated in Attacks
These groups identified certain radical football fan factions, labeled as “fascists,” as perpetrators of the violence. Renaud Mignon-Stéphan explained that these groups select their victims based on appearance, with one group even attacked for simply wearing kilts. “It’s a very serious issue,” he stressed.
Laluciole Kidman, a member of Drag Amiens, collected over 20 witness accounts in a mere two-month span. She stated that three individuals from a far-right group are repeat offenders. Their targets tend to be individuals perceived as having a “too alternative, too leftist, or too different” style.
Personal Account of a Violent Attack
Laluciole Kidman had her own experience with violence when she was attacked while returning home with friends the previous weekend. “They asked intrusive questions about my clothing and, though I stood firm, I was kicked in the stomach,” she recounted. A friend who attempted to defend her was hospitalized with a broken nose.
A Climate of Fear and Resistance
Renaud Mignon-Stéphan raised questions about the causes behind this increasing violence: “Could it be related to the upcoming municipal elections or the rise in anti-LGBTQIA+ rhetoric?” While fear is escalating within Amiens’ queer community, so is their determination to act.
Challenges in Seeking Justice
The process of filing complaints remains arduous. “Our reception at police stations is often poor,” lamented Laluciole Kidman. She mentioned that officers laughed during her incident, discouraging many victims from reporting crimes. Nonetheless, she decided to file a complaint to break the cycle of hate.

Renaud Mignon-Stéphan underscored that discrimination can surface even in places meant for victim protection. He urged concerned individuals to use online forms, write to prosecutors, or seek help from associations like FLAG or SOS Homophobie, which actively support victims of anti-LGBTQIA+ violence.
