London Trans+ Pride 2024 Sees Record Crowd of 100,000+

London Trans+ Pride Draws Historic Crowd in Powerful Show of Unity

On July 26, 2025, over 100,000 people gathered for London Trans+ Pride, marking the largest turnout in the event’s seven-year history. The march, themed “Existence and Resistance”, became a landmark moment in global trans rights advocacy, with attendance rising by 40,000 compared to previous years—an unprecedented milestone for trans-focused demonstrations worldwide.

The message is crystal clear: we will not be erased. Our existence is natural, historical, and enduring,” said Lewis G. Burton, co-founder of Trans+ Pride, during an interview with The Guardian. His statement reflected the resilient mood of a crowd determined to demand recognition and protect hard-won rights.

Defying a Challenging Political Landscape

The demonstration took place amid a rising tide of anti-trans policies in the UK. In 2024, the Labour government, led by Prime Minister Keir Starmer, passed controversial legislation banning puberty blockers for transgender youth. In a further blow to trans rights, the Supreme Court redefined “woman” strictly in biological terms, excluding trans women from access to legally protected single-sex spaces.

Protesters responded with powerful messaging, carrying placards calling for “Trans healthcare now” and insisting that “Trans rights are no debate”. Many drew historical parallels to the policies of Margaret Thatcher in the 1980s, criticizing the current government for reviving discriminatory narratives and marginalizing trans voices.

Global Concern and Cross-Border Solidarity

Alex Parmar-Yee from the Trans+ Solidarity Alliance expressed alarm over emerging policy plans that could bar trans individuals from using restrooms aligned with their gender identity. “Even if the UK isn’t the U.S., banning public bathroom access would be something Donald Trump would proudly support,” he said, highlighting the global reach of discriminatory ideologies.

Lewis G. Burton also denounced sweeping legal changes made without community consultation. He emphasized the role of a powerful, well-funded anti-trans lobby that shapes public discourse and policy while draining public resources from more inclusive initiatives.

A Growing International Movement for LGBTQ+ Rights

London’s record-breaking Pride event is part of a broader wave of international LGBTQ+ activism. Just weeks earlier, massive turnouts were seen in Paris during its June Pride March, while in Budapest, 200,000 demonstrators protested against Hungary’s conservative leadership and its restrictive LGBTQ+ policies under Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.

As anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric intensifies in various regions around the world, events like London Trans+ Pride signal resilience, solidarity, and the urgent need to defend civil rights. These global mobilizations continue to elevate transgender and non-binary voices, fostering visibility and advancing the fight for human rights.
