Canadian Army Reopens Investigation Into Facebook Hate Group

Military Police Reopens Probe into Controversial Canadian Army Facebook Group

The Canadian Military Police have officially reopened an investigation into a Facebook group called “Blue Hackle Mafia,” following allegations that it contains highly inappropriate content. The group came under scrutiny after Lieutenant-General Michael Wright, Commander of the Canadian Army, received reports on June 25 linking it to active-duty military personnel. He has since condemned the group as “reprehensible.”

Allegations of Offensive Content in Violation of Military Ethics

According to a formal statement, posts shared in the group allegedly include “racist, misogynistic, homophobic, and antisemitic comments and imagery.” These reports originally surfaced in December 2024 and prompted an initial review by the military chain of command. However, due to the seriousness of the behavior found, a full investigation was reinitiated on June 27 by military authorities.

Senior Leadership Issues Strong Denouncement

Lieutenant-General Wright expressed his outrage over the group’s content, stating he was “disgusted” by what had been shared. He emphasized that this kind of behavior is completely at odds with the Canadian Army’s fundamental principles and code of conduct. Wright also stressed the need to uphold integrity within the ranks by pursuing appropriate administrative and disciplinary action against anyone found responsible.

Disciplinary Measures Being Considered

While the investigation remains active and few specific details have been disclosed, Wright reaffirmed that all members of the Canadian Armed Forces are expected to meet the highest ethical standards. If it is determined that any service members contributed to or supported the offensive material posted in the group, they could face disciplinary penalties or administrative sanctions.
