Authorities Alarmed by Coco Chat’s Return
The potential revival of the Coco chat platform is raising significant concerns among authorities. Speaking to RMC, Sarah el Haïry, the High Commissioner for Childhood, criticized this unsettling situation. She labeled the platform’s comeback as “a real slap in the face” to the previously established commitments to safeguard minors.

Just a day earlier, Ouest-France had spotlighted “the return of the Coco site,” which had previously been shut down by judicial order in 2024. As reported, the platform has been cited in over 23,000 legal cases, including the Mazan case.
For nearly a decade, Dominique Pelicot, who received a 20-year prison sentence, allegedly used this chat service to connect with men involved in sexual assaults against his wife, Gisèle Pélicot.
The High Commissioner also mentioned other crimes linked to this platform, such as “homophobic traps, rapes, drug trafficking, and human trafficking.”
Cocoland: A New Platform Claiming Independence
Originally accessible via Coco.fr and later through Coco.gg after registering overseas, the service now appears to have surfaced anew. The recently identified site, Cocoland.cc, uses a domain linked to the Cocos Islands, an Australian territory.
According to Ouest-France, this new platform exhibits many similarities in both technical structure and appearance to the previous chat service, while also generating advertising revenue.
However, the homepage of Cocoland clearly states its independence: “Our platform is an entirely new service, independent and with no legal, technical, or organizational ties to the former Coco site.”
An Autonomous AI-Based Platform
In its legal disclosures, Cocoland describes itself as a platform operating without direct human intervention, claiming to utilize “a fragment of the historic French chat,” managed through artificial intelligence.
The platform insists it holds no connections with Isaac Steidl, the original founder of Coco, who was indicted in January 2025 in Paris on charges including criminal conspiracy and involvement in child pornography-related matters.
This backdrop also brings to light grave incidents like ambushes orchestrated via Coco leading to violent attacks, illustrating the potential dangers of these anonymous platforms.
With these conflicting elements, questions linger: Is Cocoland genuinely a new independent platform, or is it simply a reimagined version of the controversial Coco chat?
